What type of maple tree....?

Does anyone know what type of maple tree has real dark red/burgundy leaves...not in the fall when they change colors, but in the summer?

    Emperor keeps it's color better than Bloodgood.. quite a nice tree....

  3. It's not a Japanese Maple, those leaves are too skinny.  It looks just like a regular Maple except the leaves are red.  I've always just called it a Red Maple, I've got one in my back yard, right outside my kitchen window.
