  1. I agree with David N. about self control and avoiding conflicts whenever possible.

    If you must learn martial arts.. I'd recommend Muay Thai cuz it uses not only punches and kicks, but also elbows and knees..

    it's very effective in and out of the ring.

    Martial Arts is about betterment of the self, not about beating up others to prove a point, or to look good.  I have seen many people and known of even more, who think that just because they know a way of fighting, or just because they are hard they can kick some A***. Usually those people get beat up with minimal effort by somebody much smaller than them who has less fighting skills, but innocent people get hurt in the process.

    Sit back and evaluate your motivations. Then you will see that if done for the right reasons, any martial art (From Tai-Chi to Krav Maga) can be just as effective as each other, if practised for the best reasons (And SAFELY!).
