    there is no other meat that qualifies as venison.  only the Deer meat.

  2. If you come across the word "venison," ten to one it refers to deer. I guess it used to be any meat you got from hunting, but these days, we refer to that meat as "game" and specify the animal (boar, deer, pheasant, etc).

  10. Venison used to be the term used for any game meat (deer, elk, moose...etcetera).  But now it refers to only deer meat.  Not sure why that is.  *shrugs*
