What type of metal is this?

I bought a plain ring at a gift shop in Virginia for a dollar. I cannot remember the name of the metal, i think it began wit a "t". It is very dark in color and I can see my reflection in it. The salesperson told me it had the consistency of glass and could break.

could be hematite. it's dark and reflective and pretty easy to damage (dunno if it's as easy to damage as glass...). it's also fairly in expensive.
