What type of microphone lets you do this?

First, I don't really know where this question would go, but...

I am looking for a microphone that you can point in a direction and hear what people are saying from a distance. Like say, you are in a park, and you want to hear what someone is saying, you point it in their direction, and you can hear what they are saying.

Sorry for the bad explanation. I couldn't really think of any other way to explain it... But in The show "Moon Light", one of the characters uses one. If anyone watches the show, they might know what I am talking about.

    works on the same principal as a satellite antenna. the parabolic collects sound waves and focuses to a microphone.

    you can find these at sporting goods shops for listening to game out in the field.
