  1. Guitar decals, also referred to as guitar graphics, guitar skins and guitar stickers, are decals designed to adhere to the body of an electric, acoustic or bass guitar. These decals may be printed or unprinted and are usually made from printable adhesive vinyl products. The best products are made with high-tech materials such as laminated vinyls, which provide extreme durability, and removable adhesives, which allow the decal to peel cleanly off the guitar finish years after application.

In the current age of personalization, guitar decals provide musicians with the ability to customize their musical instruments in a way that was never possible in the past. Decals (also known as "Raps" or "skins") are used to personalize everything from cell phones, to laptop computers, to dorm refrigerators. It is only natural that this phenomenon would carry over to musical instruments.

Applying vinyl graphics to some instruments could be harmful to the original finish. Vintage instruments, instruments made by companies such as Gibson and Guild, as well as custom shop and boutique guitars, often have a nitrocellulose lacquer finish. This finish is extremely sensitive to contact with PVC-based products such as vinyl. Applying guitar decals to these instruments can cause severe damage to the finish. Most modern instruments use polyurethane or polyester finishes on their guitars. These modern finishes are in no way affected by vinyl and are safe for guitar decal application.

Guitar decals are just starting to emerge on the market and popularity is quickly growing among musicians.
