What type of nail gun for ??????

Question

what type of nail gun do i use for pergolas, carports, etc.?

Type meaning which one - braider, framing etc.

What size nails?

Which perform better gas, battery, or air?

Type: Framer nail gun, nail size: depends on the size of lumber you are using, double the with of the wood you are going for (example 2x4 use minimum of a  3 1/2" nail, etc.) however you should use Lag bolts if you are building a pergola and not nails. as for performance, air is probably better, battery works ok but you are limited to battery strength.

here is a good site to read up.i would use a framing gun along with a brad nailer both air with compressor,3" to frame and it depends on the finish work what size you would use there any where from 1 1/2" to 2"

Both structures you mentioned are exterior structures and normally one story thus I'd use a framing nailer tied to a air compressor and I'd combine that with an angled finish nailer.  I'm not a fan of brads in exterior applications.  Finish nails have more of a head than brads which aid in keeping materials securely fastened and they come galvanized or stainless and are usually longer than brads.
