viscosity isn't as important as additives. Make sure the oil is compatible with the bike if it has a wet clutch. Synthetics and some petrol based oils have friction inhibitors that will send a clutch OTL (out to lunch) on a wet clutch system. Honda recommends a 10W30 type SG oil for their bikes in 2008. I buy mine from the dealer because it meets all recommendations of Honda. Twice the price but I know that if my clutch goes OTL I can prove I used their oils.

I've been riding motorcycles for over 20 years, and in all by bikes I've used 10w40 even in my 2003 Kaw. 1600cc they say to use 10w40
