  1. The best thing to do is use the same oil every time. You can make a change to what you want from the old owner. 10w 30 is a good basic oil. You can also use synthtic if you like just keep using the same kind.

  2. I'm glad you asked, as this does not come up often, surprisingly.

The car calls for 5 W 30 and I recommend 10 W 30, unless you're operating in constant blow freezing conditions.  Viscosity just isn't there on 5 W 30, and my oil life monitors constantly confirm that, GM Onstar diagnosis will tell you too, if you have it (since 2006), as I do on brand new G6 GT same as Rolex Grand am GT racer.

I use Valvoline and mostly Castrol GTX hi-performance oils, same price as all.  Used to buy 20 W 50 in pre-unleaded fuel days, with softer engine parts, but now 10 W 30 as I said, but..........  oil alone is not good enough!

Use either Wynn's Xtend additive or the best Lucas Oil Stabilizer.

My cars last forever, and recently, another engineer told me that I could keep my driving oil in twice as long, "for the environment", so 10,000 km. or 6,000 miles, and none of my engines use or dirty the oil.
