  1. don't listen to the guy that says your 2006 25hp Mercury is a Yamaha painted black.... Yamaha is such a poor sport!!! they try to lay claim to everything... the truth is, Yamaha built power heads for Mercury a couple of years ago in the 60-115hp range but ended their contract when Mercury took Yamaha and the other "made in Japan" motors to court for dumping in the USA. a lot of money was spent for attorney's and lawyers on all sides and Yamaha struck back by not renewing the powerhead contract with Mercury. for the record, Mercury was unable to prove their case and lost the battle. so, to answer your question, please use Mercury's SAE 10W-30 4-stroke oil.

  2. 10W-30 is recommended. Your engine is actually a Yamaha painted black, or what we like to call a Yamamerc or Mercaha. The best oil is Yamalube 4M as your engine was designed for that. It is a semi-synthetic blend with anti-foaming agents that is designed for use at 6000 RPM. Normal oil can't handle those kind of RPM's Yamalube is available in 10W-30 and 20W-40 but your engine calls for 10W-30.

  3. look in  your  owners  manual or  on the  side of the  motor  some  where.... it  should  tell u
