  1. The ores of the metals whose oxides are unstable towards the action of heat, are easily reduced by heating in air during the course of roasting. e.g.

    When cinnabar is roasted , Hg is obtained instead of HgOas it is unstable towards the action of heat.

       2HgS  +2O2 ---->  2Hg  + 2SO2
