What type of paint do I use for painting whimsical designs on plain furniture.

I have a wood dresser that is already painted white.. What type of paint should I use to just paint over it? Just your basic acryllic. Here is an example of what I'm wanting to do

Acrylic craft paint, then topcoat with a water-based polyurethane. Varathane's "Diamond Finish" in the blue can is the best.

wow, thats really cool!! yep, acrylic seems to be the best way to go, then maybe put a clear coat of polyurethane over it when it's dry.
