I'm not necessarily just talking about the paper of most magazines (People, Time, Ebony) but also, the paper of other magazines (the Nation, In these Times).

  1. Most magazines are printed on whats called "Web Gloss". Now that is pretty specialized paper made for huge printing presses and sold in giant rolls by the tons. However, you can get the small printer equivalent called "Gloss" at your local paper distributor. (Not Kinko's or Office Depot) a legitimate fine paper distributor that sells paper to the printers in your area. It comes in several weights (thickness), and can be specified for use on laser printers if you are doing this yourself. Some of them even have recycled content.

Talk to the paper store about what you are trying to do and how it will be printed and they can recommend the proper brand.
