People who have money and good enough grades to go through many many years of college and give them much money.

For the majority of colleges, just proving that you are a good acedemic student is enough, however for more competitive colleges were face-to-face interviews are required they are looking at you as a person. Your attitude, your people and language skills, community involment, your career plans, what you hope to gain. They are also looking to see if you are right for the college, will you be able to learn and complete the assignments to the standard required.

There are a whole host of things which colleges look for from their applicants but it ultimately depends on what type of college you are wanting to attend.
