Would love to know what the plant with the purple flowers is. Photo was taken in Cork, Ireland. Any ideas? Thanks.

That would be a clematis.

Sorry Woodie, Nelly Moser is pink with white striping......and Jackmanii is with more than 4 petals.

All clematis are beautiful tho!  any one would be a great choice - including the doubles.......just takes a few years to get to be that big.

It's a clematis.

Never heard it called a crown of thorns. I have one and it is very thorny and has little red flowers.

This is a Clematis vine. They come in a variety of colors, in a good setting they will probably bloom between 3 and 4 weeks in the summer time like like sun but they also like there roots to be cooler. This is a wonderful plant and a staple plant for any flower garden.
