What type of plants do goldfish naturally feed on?

I recently set up a pond, it currently has 10 test fish (feeder fish) which have all survived, as well as 6 large-small water lettuce. I am curious to know if there are any plants readily available that will be able to feed my fish wholly.

I say readily because where the majority of my fish came from, the Ministry of Environment, they were kept in a large indoor pond with a waterfall and a plant that fed them was in and around the waterfall. It dropped seeds or something into the water feeding them.

I wanted to know the species/genus, or if anyone knows of a similar plant available to be grown outdoors in Southern Canada, Northern United States

  1. "· Water Canna plants – This plant, which comes in a multitude of colors, grows a beautiful flower. The plant can grow to be very tall so allow room.

    · Anacharis – This plant is great at oxygenating the pond and keeping it clean. Goldfish like this plant because they can hide in it from other predators and lay eggs.

    · Lotus – This plant comes in an array of colors and is found in just about every garden pond. The lotus also has a wonderful fragrance.

    · Hibiscus – This plant can grow very tall and is popular because it is easy to take care of.

You don’t have to buy plants specifically designed for goldfish in order for them to survive. But buying goldfish pond plants will allow your goldfish to live a longer, happier life."
