  1. Not bio-degradable

  2. Typically, caps are type 5.

  3. Usually they are type '5' plastic.  If your community recycles all numbers of plastic, they can be placed loose in the bottom of the blue box.  If your community only recycles type 1 and 2, you're out of luck unfortunately.  Check your phone book, etc for other recycling facilities besides the curb side blue box pickup.

  4. Hey, if you're thinking about recycling them, here's something I just recently heard about.

The beauty line AVEDA have a system set up where they are collecting plastic caps and will be using them in a future product, so they will be recycling them. Just drop off your caps at a store near you.

Here's a website for more Info:

Hope that will help you, eventhough I guess I didn't really answer the question.

  5. Since they are not marked, and since my city only accepts type 1 and 2, I try to put the caps in the trash instead of the recycle bin, to avoid contaminating the recycle stream, even though the recycle instructions from the city do not say that is required.

  6. They are not numbered as they have some type of gasket or something in them that ruins the batches they are recycled with.

I always wondered why we don't recycle them with the bottle as I throw out several myself every month.  But this page helped answer some of my questions.  Hope it helps you as well.
