I am planning a trip to Ireland and I am so confused about the adapter/converter thing. Do I need an adapter and a converter, and if so what type?

  1. You will need both a converter and a plug adapter.  The converter ( actually a step down transformer) will "convert" Irelands 220 volts to our 110 volts.  The converter size you need depends on what you will be using it for.  A hair dryer, for instance takes a bigger (higher wattage) converter than say a laptop or an electric razor.  Just get one that will be large enough to convert the largest appliance you take over there.  It will then work for the smaller wattage appliances too.  The plug adapters usually come in a kit with several configurations to cover many countries.  If you only want to get the adapter for Ireland, the store where you buy it will be able to sell you the proper one.

  2. i just moved to ireland you need a converter from 220/240 foreign to 110/120 they are around 30 bucks

  3. i'm assuming you live in the US?  then just get the same as the UK.  u'll find them in any travl type shop

  4. We use the british standard 13 amp plug here
