Question:

What type of rabbit should I get?

Has anybody had an indoor pet rabbit that didn't chew up their furniture or their carpet? I'm asking to see if there is a certain breed that will be less destructive than my last two rabbits. Or is there a trick or a product that will keep them from chewing up my stuff.

Thank you for your help.

  1. Rabbits bite because their teeth are always growing. Unless you go to the vets, and have them grind down your rabbits teeth every month or so, there is no way to prevent a rabbit from chewing. Flemish Giants are usually in a house, and are smart and easy to train. I would look into thoes. GOOD LUCK!!

  2. Rabbits are NOT rodents, they are lagomorphs. But like rodents, they have teeth which are constantly growing, and chewing is their natural way of wearing their teeth down. Therefore, chewing is a natural behavior and cannot be stopped. But there are ways to deter your rabbit from ruining your good furniture.

    1. Get a "No-Chew" spray from the pet store. This can be safely sprayed on baseboards and furniture, and has a bitter taste.

    2. Give the rabbit plenty of grass hay and chew toys.

If you do this, and back up the No-chew spray with a firm "No!" when you see him thinking about your nice chair leg, you should be able to pretty easily train him to stay away from you valuables.

I do suggest still caging the rabbit when you are away from home though, to provent unwanted chewing on furniture and other accidents.

  3. I've always had dwarf lop rabbits and they have never chewed through any furniture, wires or carpet and were also very clean by only going to the toilet in the corner (next to the toilet actually)

But if your rabbits do chew you can train them not to by spraying a little water at them when they do something wrong (chew things their no supposed to)

    Hope this helps.

  4.   all rabbits chew     sorry    if you've had rabbits you've had that experience.       no trick   you can use a product called bitter apple spray deterrent.     you can provide lots of toys and wooden toys for chewing

  5. Really no rabbits chew furnituare and cords they nibble on wood to keep there teeth down and if they dont they have to be filed and that cost some money. Get A Lionhead

  6. great question. !! actually no theres no rabbit that will be chew free there rodets and there always chewing to keep there teeth from overgrowing . ive heard that you can spray things on certian things for dogs so they wont chew on so and so but i dont know if they have a spray for rabbits .

My rabbit is two and she really doesnt chew on things .

  7. Out of 5 rabbits I have had (they have all been dwarfs) all but one has

been either a chewer or a tufter.

My friends with larger rabbits have been luckier in the area of chewing

and tufting carpets.  I believe the larger rabbits are much more cat-like

and less troublesome.  One lady I know takes her rabbit to work with her and it sleeps under her desk most of the day, only exploring the office from time to time, never eating the computer wires, and always

using the litter box.  Much better behavior than my rabbits.

Just for information -  RABBITS ARE NOT RODENTS!!!Rabbits are small mammals in the family Leporidae of the order Lagomorpha (in case the rabbit breeder didn't know this)

  8. Go to www.petfinder.com it is a great website because you can search the exact pet you want. Also on the pet's page it shows a picture, the age, breed, and the pet's personality. But the best part is that these are animals that need homes. Save the animals!

  9. there isn't a particular breed that won't do it they all do, but its only because they're bored, give it plenty of its own things to chew and play with and it should be fine :)
