  1. Police are using laser (LiDAR) more and more often. Laser is a narrow, intense beam of light and therefore is usually difficult for radar detectors to detect. Though most radar detectors claim to detect laser, it only take .2 seconds (2 tenths of a second) for the laser gun to read your speed. So even if your detector alerts, it's too late once it 'detects' a police laser gun. The laser beam is so narrow, most radar detectors won't even alert to laser before you are being pulled over.

If you are concerned about police laser, your only option is to use a laser jammer. Like radar detectors, laser jammers are LEGAL to use in nearly every state (see sources). A laser jammer jams the incoming laser, causing the speed reading on the laser gun to blank out while alerting you to the laser. This gives you time to check your speed before turning the jammer off. There are new, high-tech radar detector and laser jammer combo systems like the Escort Passport 9500ci, which includes a top-end radar detector PLUS a laser jamming system. Though not cheap, they can be a bargain when weighed against the cost in time and money of a speeding ticket, court costs, increased insurance and potential time off work to attend to a speeding fine.

In a perfect world, no one would ever make mistakes and we would never go over the speed limit. However, it's good to have a radar detector and/or laser jammer as a reminder to watch your speed as you're going down the highway.

  2. This is all that I could find but it did not give out the name of it.

"Laser beam technology" to catch speeders and red-light violators.

Radar detectors do not pick up laser light, so the laser technology offers Arizona police a new tool that can supplement radar use in law enforcement.
