  1. Restriction Codes

    1 = Corrective lenses. For people who must wear glasses or contacts to meet the vision requirements.

    2 = Left outside rear vision mirror. For people with limited vision in the left eye or with limited hearing.

    3 = Restriction #1 or #2.

    4 = Automatic transmission. For people whose physical condition requires an automatic transmission to handle the vehicle safely.

    5 = Turn indicators and power steering or steering k**b. For people with limited use of either hand.

    6 = Food, fruit, or candy within reach of the driver. For people with insulin-dependent diabetes.

    7 = Adequate artificial limbs.

    8 = Detailed restrictions on license. Refers to any other special conditions that might be required.

    9 = Accompanied by licensed driver 21 years of age or older in the front seat. For people learning to drive.

    0 = Motorcycle only. Riders under 16 are restricted to a motor scooter or motorcycle

    with piston displacement of no more than 250 cc to ride only between 4:30 a.m. and 9:00 p.m. You cannot carry a passenger. If the motor scooter or motorcycle is less than 250 cc, there is an additional restriction that you may not exceed 35 mph and cannot ride on a highway where a minimum speed limit is established and posted. These restrictions are automatically lifted at 16. However, a helmet is required for anyone under 18 years of age. (Also see the Motorcycle License Manual.)

    G. POWER STEERING means the person must drive a vehicle with power steering.

    I. DIRECTIONAL SIGNALS means a person must drive a vehicle equipped with mechanical directional signals.

    J. GRIP ON STEERING WHEEL means the vehicle must be equipped with a k**b or grip on the steering wheel.

    K. HEARING AID means the person must wear a hearing aid at all times while driving the vehicle.

    L. SEAT CUSHION means the person must use a seat cushion at all times while driving.

    M. HAND CONTROLS OR PEDAL EXTENSION means the vehicle must be equipped with hand controls or a pedal extension.

    N. LEFT FOOT ACCELERATOR means the vehicle must be equipped with a left foot accelerator.

    P. PROBATION-INTERLOCK DEVICE means the vehicle must be equipped with a device that locks the ignition at times specified by the court imposing the restriction.

    S. OTHER RESTRICTIONS means there are other restrictions imposed on this license.

    T. NO PASSENGERS ON MOTORCYCLE means the person cannot have passengers when driving a motorcycle.

    X. MEDICAL ALERT BRACELET means the person must wear a medical alert bracelet at all times while driving the vehicle.

    Y. EDUCATIONAL PURPOSES ONLY means the person can drive for educational purposes.
