  1. I know that your status as a tribal member counts for some of the aid.  I received a little over $600 a year from the Cherokee tribe, but I am a registered member.  All I had to do is fill out a form and send it in along with a copy of my membership cards.  There were also certain schools that I could have received discounted or free tuition.  I did not find out about a lot of the programs till after I was a junior and there was no sense in transferring.  I would suggest going to the website of the tribe that you belong to and see what they have available.  Good luck!

  2. Only enrolled members/citizens of federally recognized tribes are eligible for funding reserved for American Indians.  The first place an enrolled tribal member would go is to their tribe of enrollment.  Some tribes have excellent education packages available to tribal members while others offer no educational assistance.  Of those tribes that do offer financial assistance, some of the tribes have competitive scholarships while others give a flat rate to their enrolled tribal member-students.  Outside of a student's tribe of enrollment, funding can come from non-profits, governmental organizations, or colleges and universities themselves.  Assuming the funding is reserved for enrolled tribal members, a student who meets that qualification can apply for funding.  Remember that the funding is not guaranteed, it is a regular, competitive scholarship process where the best candidate(s) will be awarded.
