  1. The main field studying global warming is climatology.  The type of scientist is a climatologist.

  2. Scientists from a variety of disciplines study different aspects of global warming. The online journal Live Science says,

"Data from tree rings, ice cores and coral reefs taken with instrumental observations of air and ocean temperatures, sea ice melt and greenhouse gas concentrations have all emerged in support of climate change theory.

“There are 20 different lines of evidence that the planet is warming,” and the same goes for evidence that greenhouse gases are increasing in the atmosphere, Schmidt said. “All of these things are very incontrovertible.”

20 lines of research means that people from differnet disciplines collaborated on these reports.

Many universities now have departments of environmental science and climatology: University of Kansas, SUNY @ Stoneybrook, and Valpparaiso Univ. in Indiana. Find other schools @
