Question:

What type of screwdriver do I need for this s***w?

Ok, I'm going to describe the s***w, and see if anyone can help me find the corresponding screwdriver (don't worry about the diameter and size of it, I just need to know the type).

Imagine a flat s***w head, with an indentation on it. The indentation is in the shape of a 6-sided star, and it also has a small cylinder potruding from the middle. (Think of a dot in the middle of a Star of David)

What type of s***w is this?

Thanks!

  1. Its a star bit, I have several.

  2. i call those security screws. Just think like this, if it wasn't for the dot in the middle, you would use an allen wrench to unscrew it. the reason the dot is in the middle is so it takes a special allen wrench with a hole in the center to unscrew it. The diy way to do it would be to get the right size allen wrench and drill a tiny hole in the center to accomodate for the dot on the s***w. These screws are commonly used on video cameras, electrical and phone boxes etc.

  3. security torx, I had to buy one at grainger, it has multi sized tips. cost around 30 dollars

  4. I believe it's a torx security s***w.  If it didn't have the protruding cylinder, it would be a plain old torx s***w (or bolt).

  5. just what you described, called a star bit s***w
