What type of shirt for man visiting Italy in May?

My husband is enamored of short-sleeved Hawaiian shirts. I think nothing screams "tourist" louder. Am I right? What type of shirt is acceptable to fit in? Are polos okay? What about plain short-sleeved button down shirts (ick, IMO)? Any guidelines on these? I am totally clueless on men's clothing.

Italians are known for being stylish. So a nice button down or Polo's are ok. Button downs with the sleeves rolled up are hot to and add a youthful fresh look.

Are you worried about being robbed cause you are an obvious tourist? Or are you sick if his louder than life shirts? :)

If it's the later i'd say just let him be and walk two feet ahead or behind him the whole time.  If it's the first one I can understand your concerns. But if it's your first time in Italy they'll sniff you out anyway. Just be safe. and most of all enjoy the culture!

if he is comfortable in the Hawaiian shirts then get him some solid print ones, so he doesn't stand out so much. polo shirts and button downs would both be acceptable.
