  1. over 180 yards and it depends on you club distance

  2. You longer shots of the tee, or in some cases, shots around the green, such as a Driver from the fringe, and a 5 wood from the rough, when the ball is close to the pin!

  3. anything you want. I use them off the tee, off the fairway, from under trees for a long roller, for chipping from against the first cut, and once i forgot my putter so i putt with my driver.

  4. long distance tee shots

  5. Long shots

  6. tee shots and long  shots usually known as drives. a pro can hit 300yards, maybe 350 with spin n if the ball runs.

  7. there are 14 clubs

    driver- 4 very long shots

    Woods- for long shots

    all the irons

the highest number for sort and the lowest number for long

and pichers and chippers and putters

putters for putting in the hole when ur on the green

and chippers 4 chipping it on the green and pichers for piching out the bunkers!

  8. Woods are used for long shots off the tee and also if your ball is sitting nicely on the fairway, for long shots to the green. The woods most commonly carried by golfers, are the number one wood (driver) and three wood (used to be called a spoon). A good golfer can hit the ball up to 260 yards (no wind and a level fairway) with the three wood and over 250 yards with the driver. I have achieved close to 300 yards with a driver, even though I'm about 20 handicap, and about 250 yards from a decent lie on the fairway with the three wood.

Very few golfers are good enough, or bold enough, to attempt to hit a ball from the fairway with a driver - the club head has far too little loft for this purpose.

Who's the mentally ill ars.ewipe who gave me the thumbs down? Whoever you are, you need to get out more often.

  9. My driver is great for hooking the ball into the deep rough, or slicing it into the nearest lake.

I also find the 3 wood is excellent if the shot required is a topped ball which travels 50 yards down the fairway.

  10. Very, Very, delicate Strokes around the green

  11. it all depends the 1 wood is a driver used for tee shots and the 3 and 5 woods are made for longer shots off the fairway.

  12. Woods can be used for a variety of shots, both short and long. It depends upon what woods you're carrying. Woods are identified by their numbers, which range from 3 to 11.

A 3 wood is roughly equivalent to a 2 iron, a 5 wood = 4 iron; 7 = 5 iron; 9=6 iron; 11 = 7 iron and so on. There also are even numbered woods. A 4-wood used to be a very popular weapon on Tour.

There are club sets that are composed entirely of woods. I know a guy who carries a complete set of "woods." The only irons he carries are wedges.

It is not true that you can hit them only from a good lie in the fairway. A skilled player can use them from any lie.

The principal advantage of a wood is the big, flat bottom, which tends to be more forgiving than an iron. Also, the sweeping motion required to hit a wood is more suited to weaker player, slower swingers, juniors, seniors and women. You get more distance with less effort with woods.

In addition to using my woods off the tee, and as a second shot -- regardless of lie -- I also use my woods around the green to pitch with. I chip with my woods; In a pinch, I can putt with them -- especially useful on long putts across bumpy greens.

They are, in many ways, the most versatile clubs in the bag.

  13. Generally, they are used for the following:

Drivers - used for teeing off on most holes, or in other words, the first shot or stroke that you make on a given hole

Fairway woods - used for longer shots, either from the tee or from the fairway/rough.  The length of distance each club can produce depends on the golfers ability, clubhead speed, quality of hit.  Tiger Woods hits his 3 wood 280 yards +, but the average golfer hits his 3 wood 180-210 yards.  Again, it all depends on the golfer's ability/talent.

  14. They are drivers and used mainly for tee shots.

  15. Woods are used for longer shots, or shoths that require a lower initial trajectory and ball flight.  Drivers are used on par 4's and par 5's that have a pretty big landing area.  Drivers are slightly less accurate that fairway woods/hybrids because they impart more sidespin on the ball than the shorter woods, due to having less loft, which creates less backspin and more sidespin.  The more backspin you put on the ball, the less likely the ball will be to hook or slice.  For this reason, fairway woods or hybrids might be a better selection for par 4's or par 5's that have narrow landing areas, or hazards outlining the fairways.  When Tiger wants to make sure he hits the fairway, he will use his 5 wood most of the itme, and goes to the three or four iron in reallty tight situations.  Fairway woods will have less roll than drivers as well, due to the higher trajectoryball flight produced by having more loft than the driver.  Woods are typically more forgiving than irons due to the way the clubhead is constructed, and will produce a different ball flight.  The center of gravity in woods is deeper in the clubhead, which produces a lower and flatter ball flight than most long irons/hybrids.  A hybrid is designed to have the forgiveness of a fairway wood, with the higher, softer landing trajectory of a long iron, hence the term "hybrid."

Lots of people use woods to chip from wierd lies around the green.  If you are going to try this, realize the the ball will come off the face of the wood a little hotter than that of an iron, due to the trampoline effect created by thin clubface, otherwise known as C.O.R...which was the hot golf gimmick a few years back.  Chipping with a wood is easier because the club wont "dig" into the ground, but distance control is a little tougher.

  16. big shots

  17. When you need distance. Usual from the tee on long holes

  18. long fairway shots

and tee offs depends on the distance

  19. tee shots and,

long shots, usually second shot at par five

  20. Long ones

  21. all depends what your most good at hitting, some people prefer woods rather than long irons for flight on ball

  22. The driver is used when you tee off and you can't reach the green and you are able to hit it and not get in trouble. The 3,5,7,etc. woods are used for long shots that you need to get closer to the green with. They are mostly used on the second shot on a par five and sometimes the second shot on a par 4 if you are farther away.

  23. Woods are most used on tee shots, but can be used in the fairway if you have a really good lie.

  24. Tee shots on par 4's, par 5's and long par 3's.  It's dependent on how long you hit the ball.  A short hitter will hit approach shots from the fairway on par 4's and par 5's as well.
