I have some type of rash that makes my whole body itch. Is it better to take a really hot or cold shower? Could the rash be from sunburn, working with tobacco leafs, or a pesticide on the tobacco leafs, or a combination of them all? I was helping a local farmer harvest the tobacco, now I'm very itchy. Help!

  1. i am from a tropical island where we only take cold showers, now i am living in the states its mostly warm to hot. what i've found out is that

1 depends on how long you stay in a hot or cold shower

2 if the water is also highly chlorinated

3 the type of soap you use could also dehydrate your skin, so your skin type could also be a factor.

best suggestion would be take warm shower, don't take long  showers as your skin could become dehydrated and last but not least try using a soap for senastive skin something that doesn't dries your skin out.also using lotion after a shower helps most times, or a little petroleum jelly[vaseline] will do.this will work guaranteed.

  2. warm shower with oatmael soak in it for at least 15 minutes its great

  3. wel i have eczema and it's like a rash on my body. so the doctor told me to bathe in warm water and after you get out i would recommend that you use Aveeno lotion or maybe even the bath wash.

  4. My Dr. said COLD, never hot if you are itching!!

  5. hot initially, then cold.

  6. Definitely cold!  Every time I get bit by a mosquito or such then i put an ice cold rag on it to keep it from itching and make the swelling go down.  It really works...TRUST ME and try it!

  7. used the cold shower. never a hot one, it will aggravates your itchiness.it is hard to say which one you are allergic to. rashes from sunburn normally won't itch.

  8. i would do hot. I do and it works.

  9. Yes definitely cold. When you shower with warm weather it opens up your pores which can increase itching. Cold is the way to go.

  10. man i have a simalar prob for me the hotter the shower the itchier i get tho....i just saw on telly last night some shiela getting a range of allergy tests ..and now after like a year of itching like a dog with fleas ima go and get that test ..i suggest the same ..ask ya doc about them.

  11. Do NOT use hot water if you have poison ivy.  Use cold.  That's all I have to say.  A severe warning.

    Bad experience. . .

  12. It's better to take a cold one, because it would help the swelling go down if there is any and stop the itching more than hot water would, and it probably is a combination of all of them! So i would definitely use some anti-itch cream on after your shower!!!

  13. Whenever I have a rash I take a cold shower, as cold as I can tolerate (which is pretty cold to begin with).  It normally stops the itching pretty fast, thankfully.
