What type of skateboard is good for a beginner?

I'm 5'3", 110 pounds, size 7 1/2 to 8 shoe size. If that makes a difference...

I'm looking for a good beginner skateboard since the only experience I've had is riding my friend's for about two minutes. What is a good brand to get? What type (narrow, wide, longboard)? I'm looking for something inexpensive, but I don't really know the minimum I should spend to get a good one. My brother said the cheapest decent ones go for about $20, but I'm not sure if I should trust what he says since he gave up skateboarding while gas prices were still 75 cents a gallon...

Any tips for choosing a board?

  1. decent skateboards go for around $120 or so, and if it costs less than 90 its gonna suck.

there is no "beginner skateboard" i mean its a skateboard cmon if some were easier to use than others than everyone even advanced skateboarders would use it. stay away from brands at wallmart, kmart, target, big 5, and element

    good brands are

    decks:almost, zero, mystery, plan b

    trucks: tensor, krux, venture, independant

    wheels: bones, spitfire, rictas

    bearings: bones

if u dont no what some of those parts are then ask ur brother.

as for the size nearly all decks are 31.5 inches or very close and it wont matter at all but u will need to worry about the width. a wider deck provides more balance and control but makes flip tricks more difficult. most people use a 7.6-7.75 once they start varials or something but for starting u may want to use a wider one like 7.8 -8.0 for the extra balance and buy a new deck once u get into some intermidate tricks. try to get one thats comfortable thats the most important.

trucks come in diffrent sizes to

4.75 trucks are for 7.4-7.6 decks

5.0 trucks are for 7.6- 7.9 decks, best with 7.75

5.25 trucks are for 8.0 or wider

they also come in low, mid, and high style.

    low is for street skating

mid is for freestyle or a street and vert skater

    high is for vert skating

  2. NEVER get a walmart board, these things are cheap and not very stable.

Get something like element or baker for the deck. As for trucks I'd go with independents. Wheels are all basically the same so just go by size, the smaller the MM the faster they speed up the bigger the MM the faster they can go at max speed. I have tried many bearings but, luckys are the nicest I have had so far.

  3. i started with a baker, you'll probably want a 7.5 board in length. independent or krux are pretty decent trucks, and wheels don't really matter although i prefer autobahns or rictas. some good inexpensive bearings would be bones red's their about 15 dollars for an 8 pack. for a good set up it will cost somewhere between 100-130 dollars.

  4. You can get an awesome complete for about $90.  Go to www.skatewarehouse.com and build a complete with the following:

Deck: Mini-Logo (made by Powell Skateboards) or Skate Warehouse (comes from the factory as Almost, Blind, Darkstar, and Enjoi)

    Trucks: Independent, Thunder, or Tensor

    Wheels: Skate Warehouse

    Griptape: MOB

    Bearing: Bones Reds
