What type of snowboard should i get? before this year i've always rented. and this year i decided to really get into it more.

Im 6' 3", and 160 pounds, so i would need something fairly light.

This year, i want to start getting into the freestyle aspect of the sport, but i dont know if i should get a "freestyle" board is there anything in-between? Will it really effect me much if im riding a freestyle board down the mountain occasionally instead of 100% on a course. or whatever....

anyways, someone with some experience please answer what type of snowboard i should get.

edit: also i wear a 13 shoe, so would i need to get something wider then the norm?

  1. First, use a snowboard size calculator to get an idea of what size board you should be riding - this one will also give you some suggestions for boards that might work for you:

At 6'3", 160, size 13, freestyle/freeride, beginner, male the suggested size is about 160cm. There are "twinish" boards with 1/2" setback which a comprimise between true freestyle and an "All Mountain" board. I have heard that the Rome Agent and Rome Vinyl are excellent boards for this. I personally like Ride Snowboards - maybe check out the Ride Decade Wide, Ride Yukon, or the Ride Fleetwood (which is what I ride and I LOVE it!!):

  2. Hey. Tahoe T covered a lot of essential stuff including sizing. however The agent is a good board, but it is not wide. The Slash is the name of the wide version. The Vinyl is a womens board. The Ride Fleetwood is a great all-mountain board that is very easy to ride. Another board that I think will be perfect for you is the new Burton Mayhem. This is a lot like the custom but is a little more forgiving for the progressing rider. http://www.sierrasnowboard.com/2009-Burt... Another very popular one is the Gnu CHB http://www.sierrasnowboard.com/Gnu-CHB-M... This also comes in a wide version and will also ride the mountain, as well as the park, very well. Those are just two of many boards that could work for you. Feel free to email me with anymore questions.
