I'm applying to OSU soon and there is an essay required. The gave me a topic on the 2008 Presidential Election to write about. My limit is 400 words. I guess what my question is, is what I said above:

What type of structure is required/do colleges like to see when writing an admissions essay?

Thanks for any help, bestie gets 10pts. =]

  1. PICK YOUR CANDIDATE AND USE SOLID REASONS WHY YOU PICKED HIM AND WHY YOU THINK HE SHOULD BE OUR PRESIDENT. FOR EXAMPLE, JOHN McCAIN IS PRO-LIFE, SUPPORTS OFFSHORE DRILLING, AND SUPPORTS THE WAR IN IRAQ AND THATS WHY I LIKE HIM.

  2. You should use your basic essay format. Opening paragraph with a statement and three things to back your statement. Then three more paragraphs detailing each reason you stated in the first paragraph and finally a closing paragraph. I'm assuming your 18 and this is your first election, so talk about how you are paying attention more because you have the right to vote. Also talk about who you will voting for and why.

What OSU are you applying to? Ohio State, Oklahoma State, Oregon State?

  3. On the presidential election?  I would totally suck at that prompt because I haven't kept up with that only because I think it would be a waste of my time since I can't vote for this election.

However, if YOU have kept up with this then make sure that you get all of your facts right.  Don't sound like your decision is the absolute answer because then you'll just sound arrogant but then again put a little passion into it.  Remind them why you choose that candidate.

Another thing that you can talk about is how this election is different from all the other ones.  How now you see a change with there being minorities reaching the top and how it signifies a social change in society for the U.S.
