  1. I agree with Graham. The best way to do this is to speak about the person you're speaking with, steering conversation toward topics that person is interested in/knowlegeable about. Given the chance, most people will gladly talk about something they feel comfortable discussing & never bring up anything about you in the conversation.


  2. You keep asking the other person things about him or her self.  Most people love talking about themselves, especially if you show enthusiasm and interest in everything the other person tells you about themselves.

    Most people are really not much interested in knowing about what other people think and usually only ask about that out of politeness.

  3. The common answer is to gossip about others. That should be avoided. Talk about news events.
