Iv never seen the belt I have until i got it a month or two ago, it is yellow but it has a orange stripe going down the middle. Not like the stripes on a black belt or yellow stripe on a white belt but it goes across the whole belt. Anyone have any idea?

  1. The belt colors vary from school to school, even two WTF schools or two ITF schools can have a slightly different color scheme.

If your belt color goes White, Yellow, Yellow w/Orange stripe, Orange, Orange w/green stripe, green, or something like that, it's typical.

A white belt is a 9th Gup, the next belt would be 8th, then 7th, counting up to 1st gup, which is typically a red belt or red with a black stripe.

Then you go to 1st Dan (black belt).

  2. Hmm judging by the length of time that it took you to earn your belt, that is why it is considered a 'half belt'.

You still need more lessons to earn the 'full' yellow belt.

In jujitsu and judo, the red and white belt is worn by those that hold a 6th to 8th dan.

I've never heard of taekwondo instructors using a red and white barred belt.

  3. Do you know if you are ITF, WFT, ATA, something else? Is your school part of large chain.  My Grandmaster Woo Jin Jung wears a black belt he has had since the 60(it faded and looks gray in some areas but looks cool).  My guess is that it's progress belt.  Some dojangs have those type belts to help bring in more money and to keep students because the student will feel like they are making process.  Some are good and others are not desirable.  Ask your master/instructor to explain the belt program to you.

  4. i know this, i go tae kwon do, its called high-yellow, its like half a belt, you need another half to complete it, and then you will reach green belt

  5. or it could be a smaller step this is a difficult question the best way to find out is ask ur instructor or master for an explanation
