What type of teaching job could i get with a BA in Humanities?

I'm 23.. I am FRESH in the army.. just came in last year. i am going to finish this degree and become an officer (i already have 2 years+ of college down).. i was wondering what jobs would be available to me if i decided not to re-enlist.. i have always wanted to be a teacher..

  1. It depends on the state you live in, and the grade you want to teach. Best thing you can do is check your states Dept of Ed website. Some even have programs called "soldiers to teachers" (or similar titles). In a lot of states because of No Child Left Behind, if you want to teach High School, you have to have a bachelors in the subject you want to teach (ie a Bach in Math, to teach Math). Some states have a teacher shortage and will allow anyone with a Bach to teach. There are also all kinds of alternate certification programs out there, that get you certified as long as you have a bachelors. The problem with all these options, is you don't get the good lessons on HOW to teach. Most might have a few week student teaching part, but not like a certification degree. My advice to you is if it's not too late, and you really want to be a teacher, change majors. If it's too late, then enroll in a Masters program that leads to certification. You'll get all the necessary tools in a degree program.
