Were moving into a house for the 08-09 school year and are in need of television service. What are the pros and cons of each and any success or horror stories are there about these services.

  1. I currently have DirecTV and previously had DishNetwork.  I would recommend DirecTV.  Don't get fooled by the cheapest rate tricks.  DishNetwork has the cheapest entry plan but it has significantly less channels then DirecTV's lowest priced plans.  Also DirecTV's HD lineup is much more impressive than DishNetwork and $10 per month less.  I had billing troubles with DishNetwork as well and they didn't value that I was good customer after 10 years of service so I jumped ship to DirecTV and have been very happy.

  2. I worked for Dish and the service is great. I now have Time Warner Digital cable. It is more expensive but not bad. I have TiVo also. Pay for TiVo service on the yearly plan so you don't have to do the monthly thing. With Time Warner I get my home phone all calls one price, I get road runner Internet. All three for $138 a month. I can get a cell phone on the plan too but I don't want to do that right now. I say go with cable and TiVo and you can watch your TV shows on your computer. You can put your digital photos on your TV from your computer. This is just the tip of the iceberg here. I had the DVR from Dish, remember I was not paying for any of that and I like Time Warner with TiVo the best. Good Luck. I hope you enjoy what you get.

  3. Personally i have had dish network for about 5 years with no problems.( actually during heavy rain + electrical storms I might get a little choppy signal but it only lasts a few minutes/ Very rare)I live behind a big empty open space(baseball field) and you need a good signal for the satellite receiver and having cable for a long time the picture is fantastic + you get more HD channels on satelite.Got frustrated with the cable CO. because it seemed the rates were being raised every few months. I would change it over to satelite if I had to again + it is about $20(monthly) cheaper for the same programing and Dish network has gone up only $2 in 5 years.!!!!GOOD LUCK!!!!!
