What type of virus is this? ?

Question

Symptoms: 1. the arrangement of folders is disturbed not alphabetic/type etc.

2. whenever i open a folder it goes down to the last number

3. every folder's size is shown, when pointer is on that, 46.5 KB

4. folders containing pictures are empty while in properties the it shows it contains 106 or some files etc.

5. a message is frequently displayed "there is no disc in drive <name>

Any solution plz, can i get my lost files?

Go to link below and download Spyware Doctor and Norton Security Scan.  Install, update, and run full system scan, starting with Spyware Doctor.

If it is malware, Spyware Doctor should take care of it. The security scan should atleast tell you what it is, if it is a virus. If your antivirus program will not delete or remove it, then try Highjackthis.

There&#039;s a lot of free softwares for recovering lost files. But if it&#039;s overwritten by other files, then free softwares can&#039;t recover it for you. But there are lots of non-free softwares than can salvage lost files even by repartitioning your HDD.

As for the misbehavior of your explorer, I think you don&#039;t have a virus in your case. You might have unselected an option in the folder settings indicating to ALWAYS REMEMBER FOLDER SETTINGS, so that whenever you open a folder, its sorting will be the same with the last time you open it.

For the mouse-over issue, there&#039;s nothing wrong with that. Usually when you do a mouse-over, your system only detects those files which are just inside that folder, not all files including files inside every folders inside it. Also, it won&#039;t include hidden files and system files. You can only get the real number of files by opening the folder&#039;s property as you&#039;ve said.

As for the message &quot;there is no disc.... &quot;, I dont know bout that because you didn&#039;t put much of an explanation bout it. However, if you are really suspicious bout any virus roaming inside your PC, better have an Antivirus. Just remember to ALWAYS UPDATE it because antiviruses depends on the virus definition it has.

The best antivirus free on the internet is Avast, it has a built-in AntiSpyware, a software you wont normally get for free as package in an antivirus.
