Question:

What type of virus is this?

A couple of times now, when I try to close my browser after logging off of myspace it won't close. Instead, it will open up several windows of whatever page I was on (like myspace homepage or the log out page) over and over again until my computer freezes up. I update my virus protection regularly and have run a scan and it's not catching whatever this thing is. I have Norton's, by the way. It has caught everything else that has tried to invade my computer but not this. It's frustrating.

My friend suggested an anti-virus protection that was something like kapinski or something. I can't remember.

What type of virus is this? And what can I do to get it off of my computer?

Thank you.

  1. Run a virus scan at http://www.antivirus.com  There is a free virus scan called "House Call"  This should detect it because the virus is hiding itself from Norton.  It sounds like a Backdoor Trojan.  Norton is the best anti-virus software that is available.  This alone is not enough to catch all viruses because there is no perfect anti-virus software.  There are tons of new viruses everyday.  If the House Call scan and your Norton scan say that they can get rid of the virus, shut down your computer for a full 30 seconds.  Boot it back up and run the scans again.  If the same virus appears, I may be able to help you with manual removal.  You can email me at blackglory@att.net  If you need this help, please write down the name of the virus, file name, and path as it appears on the Trend Micro House Call scan.  I.E.  C:\WINDOWS\System32\virus.exe  Trend Micro name:  Cryp_Tap_2

    Hope this helps!

  2. I would run this first. Do a quick scan , Click Remove after the scan completes.

    Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware

    http://www.malwarebytes.org/mbam.php

Your friend recommended Kaspersky Online Virus Scanner

    http://www.kaspersky.com/virusscanner

You should still run it after the Malwarebytes scan. Tho it only detects.

  3. its not a virus im thinking its spyware try this http://www.snapfiles.com/reviews/Spybot_... its a antispyware it works very very good to find an remove it

  4. click start, system restore, retore to like a week ago when you diddnt have this virus done!

  5. If your browser is IE Try this:

    Tools | Manage Add On's

    Enable or Disable Add-On's

Then disable everything except Microsoft Add-On's

Close all instances of IE and re-open

Try to open IE, surf to MySpace and see if it happens again.  If not, then re-enable one add-on at a time till you find the culprit.

    Good Luck
