  1. That depends on where you are.  Where I live, red and green are used interchangeably (depending on when you got the container) for paper and plastics (at different times).


  2. In the Netherlands it is usually (there are plenty exceptions):

    grey - everything you'd normally put in the garbage bag

    green - plants, vegetables, fruits (easily biodegradable, non-meat waste)

    blue - paper, cardboard

    red - chemical waste from households (like old medication or paint)

    yellow - medical waste (although yellow is often used for other purposes as well)
