Weaving experts, I could really use your help! What kind of weaving involves using thick, tube-like strands that resemble shoelaces, and you weave them (usually on a loom)? The strands are thick, not like yarn or even wool but things that are like shoelaces.

Sorry I don't have a photo; I did have a woven pencil case once years ago but I think it got thrown out at one stage. Hope you can help. Thanks.

  1. Weaving is weaving !! It is all done on looms of one sort or another. It is done with all types of fiber configurations. It can be done with very fine thread as in the cotton shirt you are wearing or it can be done with yarns as in blankets.

It can also be done with strips of knitted or woven fabrics as well.

I have used both the knitted loops from t-shirt type fabrics on the little looms where you stretch the loops from one side to the other, then weave the other strips the other way, under one over one and stretched to the other side. this is then looped off on the edge similar to crochet chain stitching or slip stitching.

I have also used the t-shirt or rags strips to warp larger or differently shaped looms, then more of the same to weft under one and over one .

Weaving is weaving!! Under one or more warp threads and over one or more warp threads to weave patterns.
