I am 5"9, I weigh about 165lbs.

I have a waist size of 31-32.

I usually wear shirts that are small or medium.

I consider myself to have a "fit" body.

I rented a wetsuit at the beach and it was by Xcel.

It said that it was a M/L. I'm assuming Men's Large.

I a noobie surfer and I am just getting into it.

What type of wetsuit should I buy?

P.S. I live in Orange County and I usually go to Huntington Beach.

  1. M/L is medium large

Xcel is the best you can get.

just go talk to the guys at HSS

huntington surf and sport or if your willing go to the Rip Curl Store down in San Clemente on S. El Camino Real

just ask the guys they're super chill and layed back

  2. What i use is a Rip Curl E-bomb front zip it works really well and keeps me nice and toasty during the winter up in the Monterey Bay.  I have had the suit for almost two years now and no rips in it or any thing.

You should just go to your local surf shop. If you go to Huntington Beach a lot you should just go to Huntington Surf and Sport and talk to one of the guys that work there and they will get a suit that fits you well.

    Good luck and keep surfing.

  3. Go to the local surf shops and comparison shop. talk to the folks at the surf shops, and se what they recommend. Make sure you try on the suits, and have a good fit before you pick one. There are lots out there to choose from, and the folks at your local surf shops are the best sources of information and advice.

  4. if that wetsuit fit you OK, get the same one. Xcel is a great suit--i've been wearing them for years.

you could always hit the local shops and get some advice on a good all-around suit for you local water temps.

BTW-M/L (sometimes MT) is medium long (or medium tall). wetsuits are not only made by size (S,M,L)--but also length (short, tall).

  5. hey you live near me!! what i do is buy a summer and a winter suit(if you plan to go in the winter).  for the summer just get a short arm long leg 3/2 thickness. Ripcurl makes a good suit for that.  That should be plenty warm for the coldest summer conditions.  For the winter I recommend you get either an xcell or the oneill mutant.  Which ever way you decide to go for the winter just make sure it is a 4/3 full suit.

  6. the big clambouski thinks a 2/3 spingsuit

    respect the big clambouski

  7. Depends if your going to surf year round. I live in San Diego and have a 4mil ripcurl that keeps me warm on the coldest winter days. You should go to your local surf shop and try on different sizes to make sure of a good fit. Don't be cheap buy a good wetsuit you don't want to freeze your ***** off during the middle of winter becuase you decide to save a few bucks. I have had alot of full suits that last two have been the best Quicksilver lasted me 4 years and I surf 3 to 4 days a week during the winter. Have a ripcurl 4mil at the moment that keeps me warm and has stayed together for the last three years very well. Quicksilver, Ripcurl, Billabong Are the three I recomend

  8. Just go to a surf shop and buy a good wetsuit. Aleeda wetsuits is a good brand and usually around October they have a big warehouse sale. Just don't buy anything on line- you need to make sure it fits right.
