Question:

What type of window treatments for front door?

I moved into a house that had one of those little hour glass shaped curtains covering the front door. It looks too country'ish for me. What should I put there instead? Mini blinds? Do those look appropriate on front doors? What about a valance on the top part of the door? It looks very plain and empty without anything there now.

  1. The hour-glass shaped curtains can turn into regular curtains. Just remove that little velcro or snap tie that is holding it in the middle like that. It will cover the entire window, but if it is a sheer it will still let light in. I think those curtains, especially a white sheer, looks classic not country.

Would not do the mini blinds. They'll make noise when you open and close the door and they look cheaper.

  2. We had the same problem.

We went to Home Depot and bought this:

It's super easy to install and it looks great.  It works great over our back door.

Our front door was harder because we wanted the privacy and it had a long skinny window on each side of the front door.  We did this to that door:

It installs with water.  It's not a sticker. . . more of a static cling.  It sticks really well but comes off without leaving a sticky residue if you need it off.  Very easy and super classy.  We have people touch it all the time and tell me that they thought it was real stained glass.

Hope one of these ideas works for you!
