Ok, simple one here for all you tech guys and girls... I need to find out if my Siemens Gigaset SE587 WLAN dsl modem is one of the following:

802.11b, 802.11g or a Super G Wireless device???

I have no idea what any of that means (lol!) but all I know is if I want to get a certain type of wireless USB adaptor [

Netgear Rangemax WPN111 Wireless USB 2.0 Adaptor] The specs of my wireless device should match one of those I've listed.

Any help on this would be great!

Thanks in advance and happy answering to you all and to all a good day/afternoon/night!!

  1. If you have a wireless router, I'll guarantee you that it supports 802.11b.  If it's been manufactured in the last 4 years, it will also support 802.11g

  2. well... to answer your question, it doesnt matter. the 802.xx standards require that all technologies be compatible with each other, ( forward or backward) if you buy something that is b standard and use it on a "g" device it will still work, it just may not have the speed of "g" technology. and vice versa.

  3. according to siemens website this is a b,g, and super g

btw this is a spec for an older SE555 but it shouldnt be any different since yours is a SE587

your netgear adapter should work fine with this.

  4. First off, your best bet for accurate info is your provider... I assume this router is provided by your provider.

Having said that, it's certainly at least 802.11 g/b  so you should be fine.

  5. It's a wireless-g.  Get a Wireless-G adapter.
