What type of wood has a texture similar to cedar wood?

I'm trying to find possible lumber choices for a post to mount a cedar product, and I want it to blend well.

  1. the best and hardest wood is locust wood it will last 35-years

    in the ground. as matching the wood it will have to be stained


  2. I think cedar will work for the actual post as well.

  3. Some of the synthetic "woods" like Trex and others have textures that are similar to cedar.

  4. Try cherry or alder; both alike in color and texture.

    Alder is much cheaper where I am ( Virginia ).

  5. For a post, you are limited on good chices.

    Redwood will blend ok, but is not so good for ground contact.
