I'm going to be a freshman in high school and I need a backpack because I don't own one. We have a fairly large textbook for 5-7 subjects, we need to carry a binder, a calculator, a pencil case, possibly some other school supplies, I need to be able to carry my lunch, and we can't store stuff in our lockers. How big of a bag do I need? I don't have to carry anything but what I've stated.

  1. You're going to need one of the largest ones...and you will want something with rollers unless you really WANT back trouble.  I got by in law school with a standard laptop backpack (Targus Matrix...lifetime warranty and they actually replaced it when it broke), but I had a locker between classes and so only carried 2-3 large books plus my laptop and other basic supplies.

If you're not allowed rollers, I would consider a hiking pack with an internal frame to properly distribute the small forest you'll be carrying with you all day.

  2. jansports are fine. just carry like one or two textbooks with ur hand.

  3. Well in Jansport they have these big backpacks that are meant for textbooks. I'll give you the link. I think you should order it.

There should be a button called "Whats its fit" and it will tell you how much it holds. It says:

    Fits:

    3-5 textbooks

    Laptop computer

    1-3 large binders

    Paperback books

    Spiral notebooks

    Calculator

    Pens and pencils

    Bag lunch

    Cellphone

    MP3 Player

    Gym clothes

    Sweatshirt

I think this should be good

    Good luck!

  4. wow, that sounds fairly heavy...

perhaps you can consider those bags with small wheels which you can pull out a handle, like those small luggage ones you can take on plane, but the same time can be a backpack as well if you want it to be? less strain and not as tiring for your back? hope that help.....

    and no lockers provided? shocking.....

  5. a big one

  6. in my experience (just finished freshman year)

I've realized that a big backpack isn't always what you need. I got through just fine with a normal sized black jansport. I say keep it simple. Don't confuse yourself wit ha giant backpack unless you can keep organized. A simple, simple, two pocket (one large main, one small on front) jansport any color should do just fine.

Also depending on your personal preference, either side backpack that you can carry like a bag or an actual backpack. I have plenty of friends who got the side bag and used it all year and were just fine. Myself, I used a backpack.

Good luck freshie year too :) (there is no freshie beat up srsly)
