What types of BMW's are sporty cars??

Question

Im looking to buy a BMW and I want a sporty one but im not familiar with them at all. I know the 330xi is pretty sporty does anyone else have any suggestions?? Any links on the subject or any insight at all is appreciated.

PS: I dont want a convertible

6-series will always be my personal favorite, but it was discontinued in '89

8-series is awesome, discontinued in '99

you could get the e36 m3. or e 46 m3 if you have the cash.. thats as sporty as it gets.

All BMWs are pretty sporty, except for the X- models. (X5, X6, X3).

The BMW website has all of their cars with pictures, so that should help a lot. The M5, M3, M6, Alpina B7, and Z4M are all very fast and sporty, I love them a lot.

It depends on your definition of "Sporty"

All BMWs are sporty to me. They all drive like dreams and no matter which one you are in, you feel like you are driving a sports car.

But, a true "sporty" BMW would be a two seater, like the z4 or z3. They are convertibles unless you get the coupe.

If you are going to buy new, look at the 1 series and 3 series. If money is no object, go with the M6.

In my many years of experience I think the last sporty car BMW made was the 1989 635csi and not the M6 because the engines last about 150K and then loose power and it takes 10 to 11K $$ to rebuild right..

The M cars from BMW are sporty, but in general the 1,3 and Z4 are sporty, but the 5 and 7 series drive pretty nicely from big cars.

Get the biggest engine you can find.  The 330xi is an all wheel drive version.  I think the rear wheel drive version will be sportier.  

Find and M-power car and it should be sporty enough.  M1, M3, M5, M6, etc...

If you want convertible, Z3/Z4's are fun.  Get the 3 liter engine for more power.  

If you don't get an M car, make sure you get the sports package, they generally have better tires/suspension.

everyone so far is right, the m cars are the best of the best, but if you are not looking to spend too much money, i suggest looking at the model second to the m3, usually a 330 or 335, depending on the year

they are sporty cars, and you can upgrade them over time to a full m3, if you desire

bmw 330xi is a pretty sporty car but if you want a nice sporty car that isnt expensive as the M series bmw's go with a bmw 335i or xi - 300hp twin turbo plus the option of coming with all wheel drive

the 6 series is good but the 8 series is much better but more expensive get a M3 ,M5, or some thing like a X6
