  1. there isn't much that you can do here except teach english. that is if  you are a native of the language. the law here is pretty much as it is anywhere. you wont be allowed to work in any job (legally) that would be possible for a mexican to do. accountant? forget it. (just an example) you must have a talent that is in very short supply here. the law is the same ion the USA, it's just that we need a lot of cheap labor in nthe states. there is plenty of that down here mexico way. the good news is that you don't have to have a teaching degree to work as a teacher here. you could even teach your specialty at a nice university like ITESM (Tec de Monterrey) in english. that is, if there is a need for it. i have taught english here for almost 5 years and make 25-35 USD per hour working with corporate students. I have a TESOL certificate, but no degree. i sold real estate in chicago before coming here. if you have any questions about how to dump your american life and come down here and live a life of leisure, contact me by email. take care.......rob

  2. Your best chance of getting professional employment in Mexico as an American is to work for a global firm and eventually get placed here as an expat.  For that to happen, you most likely need very specific skills (like IT) and need to be bilingual.  You will most likely also work for the firm in their home country first.

Beyond that, you could enter the Foreign Service and hope to eventually get placed in Mexico -- but that is not a given and you might have several other assignements and several decades of work before you would land a position here.

Finally, you could teach, but unless you have scads of experience and good connections, you will not earn a salary equivalent to that of most US expats employed at global firms.

There are huge numbers of Mexican nationals (many who are thoroughly bilingual) competing for the few well-paying professional jobs that open up each year.  It is highly unlikely that you would be hired over them, and even if you were, if you were hired directly by a Mexican firm, you would be paid as a Mexican professional at wages significantly lower than what you might receive for the same position in the US.

  3. Both previous answers are correct.   If you are not a Mexican citizen, you must have a VERY special talent, skill, high tech  ability to offer and find a company to hire you...very difficult.  And...profeesional here makw a fraction of same job in the states.  the best job for an American in Mexico , is to be RETIRED!

  4. None. The have plenty of college graduates here. Many are working as waiters.
