What types of bacteria are spread by not washing your hands after using the restroom?

My mother-in-law suffered from C-DIFF (That's not the full name of it, but that's what it is called).  this is an intestinal infection that is passed by "fecal contact".

Her husband was very sick, and she had to clean him after his bowel movements.  She contracted the diseas that waye.  She recovered.

It killed him.  He got severe diarrhea, and died of dehydration -- even though he was in the hospital when he died.
