What types of cool rocks can I find near my house?

I'm interested find rocks in my own backyard. I live in Massachusetts- more specifically the South Shore. What types of interesting rocks can I find nearby? I mean not just granite and slate...?

Any help would be awesome!

Hey!!! Its George from Braintree mass. Geologyst and rock hunter!!!  Found a giant deposit crystals in weymouth near the railroad tracks! I donated these coke bottle size specimens " Quartz Crystals" to The Weymouth Tufts Library Museum in Weymouth Mass on Broad st. It is very hard to tell you "HOW" to find good mineral specimens! I have been at it for years and belonged to  mineral hunter clubs (Natural Science Center in Norrwell Mass) and on excursions to (non tourist) gem collecting sites in the white mountains\New Hampshire. There  ARE  places around the south shore were you can find good mineral specimens. All I can tell you is look in old rock quarries and new road\railroad cuts. Look for Quartz veins in the granite. If these veins have dark spots, holes or pockets filled with clay look in these pockets. Follow veins up under the dirt on a ledge, small  plants grow down into crystal bearing pockets!

it really depends on where exactly your house is.  If by the beach you can find all sorts of cool rocks.
