At a wedding? Our family is doing I guess what you'd call a potluck reception. They've asked us though what food and hors dourves we'd like prepared. Fiancee asked for lasagna. I asked for mini pizzas. We figure salad & breadsticks. What else should be served?

Nothing too fancy

  1. You could always do some kind of chicken. Like grilled chicken chunks or even fried chicken tenders.

Another favorite, and a must have at a pot luck is barbecue meatballs! Just buy frozen meatballs, mix some barbecue sauce and grape jelly and throw them in the crock-pot for a few hours. Delicious!

  2. Cheese and crackers are always nice. Keep food in small bites to keep the mess to a minimum.(lasagne on your shirt or blouse anyone?)

  3. Sounds like your going for Italian type food. I would suggest penne a la vodka with either chicken or shrimp.  It's very easy to make and you really should have some kind of protein, the chicken or shrimp get extended since the main ingredient is pasta. It's also a little fancier than standard baked ziti or lasagna. As for hors dourves, bruschetta is good, stuffed mushrooms....things that aren't too sloppy.

  4. Sounds good, however looking at the menu I know that I, with a milk allergy, would go hungry. Check what allergies your guests have. A lot of people are either lactose intolerant or allergic to milk. Check for vegans or vegetarians too in addition to allergies. Some sort of grain and bean salad is always nice (but more a summer dish than winter).

  5. I've been to a reception that had Subway catered in.  Sandwiches were put together (3") & toppings were for us to put on.

But with lasagna, pizza, salad & breadsticks, it sounds pretty good!  You could have some pasta salads.  You might want to keep in mind those people who are on low carb diets &/or diabetics. My brother had lasagna, salad & breadsticks for his rehearsal dinner and everyone loved it!  SO much better than fried chicken & roast beef.

This weekend I attended a reception and instead of favors on the table, they had a table set up with fancy glass bowls and mini scoops arranged at different levels and had all kinds of candy!  There were small celophane bags and twist ties so we could create our own mix.

There were M&Ms - plain & peanut, gummi bears, Skittles, Hershey Kisses, jelly beans, etc.

  6. I think it would probably be good to suggest a variety of different meats so that you don't end up with all of the one meat (e.g. all beef dishes). It would be good to have a mix of beef, chicken, pork, seafood and vegetarian dishes. Also take into account your particular guests. For example, if you have a lot of family and friends who are vegetarian, offer more vegetarian options.

    Other ideas:

-salads (e.g. pasta salad, potato salad, garden salad)

-skewers or kebabs are always good for events because they're easy for guests to handle while mingling. You could have some chicken, lamb, beef and vegetable skewers.

    -mini quiches

    -meatballs

-sasauges (you can get the gourmet kind if you don't want regular ones)

    -Chicken wings

A few bowls and platters of various things is also another idea for guests to snack on before or after the main meal- fruit platter, cheese and cracker platter, bowls of nuts, bowls of candy.

Desserts are another option (unless you plan on just serving a wedding cake for dessert). I have been to a wedding where the mother of the bride went to a bakery on the morning of the wedding and got a platter of mini cakes, slices, muffins and tarts. They were a big hit!

Other suggestions: brownies, cheesecake, chocolate mousse, trifle, apple pie, any type of cake (chocolate. carrot, banana, etc.).

  7. Maybe something Vegetarian? Unless you know for sure everyone you invited eats meat.

    ~Hors Dourves~

    Fruit Trays

    Cheese and Crackers Tray

    Veggie w/ Dip Tray

    Mini Pizzas

    ~Main Dishes~

    Grilled Portobella Mushrooms (Vegetarian Option)

    Grilled Tilapia (Fish Option)

    Meat Lasagna (Pasta/Meat)

    ~Sides~

    Caeser Salad (Healthy Salad)

Potato Salad (Starch and Veggies Option)

    Steamed Mixed Veggies (Healthy Veggies)

  8. prime rib, lobster tails, jumbo shrimp cocktails, new york strips, open bar, loose bridesmaids

  9. I have been to two diffrent weddings within the last year that served only spagahttii, salad, bread, and side salads or friut. And both were awsome. Everybody enjoyed the familiar food and the kids all ate without protest or proding. It sounds like you are going with simple fair which if presented right can be very cool. But since the food is simple I would keep the side dishes to a minimum and just make sure you have enough for the number of guest you have invited. Plus factor a couple more people then have rsvp'ed because people tend to show up with dates or forget to send in the responce cards.

  10. i would be satisfied with a salad and cake ;)

  11. cheesecake!!!

  12. Meatballs, wings, veggie tray, fruit tray, cheese and cracker tray, shrimp with cocktail sauce, mini sandwhiches, Italian wedding soup, a chicken course. Nothing that is too messy.

  15. definitely some kind of meat and fish-not just pizza and pasta

  16. i'd try to have some salads or fruits and veggies there for people who are mroe inclined to eat that

also i'd see if you can get some water or ice water for people who would like to drink water

    congrats

  17. If i were a guest you would melt my heart with anything with rice and caribbean chicken with hot sauce

  18. I'd say that the most important thing to remember is diversity....some people who show up might be on special diets or something and can't eat heavy stuff like lasagna or pizzas.  Try to find out if your  wedding guests will have any dietary restrictions; they will feel happy that you are considering them.

  19. omgg you should have cinnamon buns

    and ice cream
