What types of fruit and veggies will grow in Dubai, United Arab Emirates?

When I lived in Kuwait, I grew serrano peppers and tomatoes in pots on my patio.  I don't know what you can grow directly in the ground there.  If the UAE soil is anything like Kuwait's, you will have to buy soil to enrich the native soil.  I'm sure if you keep your "crops" watered sufficiently and provide some measure of shade from the intense sun, you can pretty much grow what you want.  Some things, like peas, are cool weather crops and may not do well at all.  Good luck!
