I am an American and I love Sweden. I want to move there. What kinds of jobs are available there? What types of industries do they have for educated professionals? I would learn Swedish of course.

  1. I'm Swedish and have moved to the UK because it was so hard to find jobs, even with a degree. My friends have all had to move hours away from our home town in Sweden just to get work.

I would a) learn Swedish, because of the reason the previous answerer mentioned and b) focus on the major cities where you may have a chance of finding something. Stockholm, Gothenburg. Just beware, accommodation won't be cheap there...

I'm happy to hear you like our beautiful country, but the job situation ain't that great there...sorry.

But good luck! Wish you the best!

  2. Hi! I was born in Florida and married a Swede here in the US and already learned Swedish before I moved to Sweden in my early 20's. I also have a double bachelor's degree, am multilingual, and have experience in the medical field. I thought that my assets would really help me get a good job in Sweden, but after several years of trying to make a good living, I moved back to the US.

In the first year I had a really terrible paying job teaching English to kids in daycare, who have at least one parent from an English speaking country. I lived in Ostersund then where the jobs were a bit scarce.

The following year we moved to Stockholm, and so it was easy for me to get a similar job, but teaching English to kids ages 6-16 in school. That paid much better hourly, but hours were limited.

I ended up making good contacts through my job, and landed an awesome job as an Editor, summarizing news articles in English and Swedish and also proof-reading all of the Swedes English articles since I was a native English speaker. That job was really great, and the pay was too. However, it was a temporary position for one year.

I was really close to getting hired by AstraZeneca (pharmaceutical company) a couple of times, and they told me that. But the positions got filled by Swedes who spoke excellent English.

There are definitely all kinds of job opportunities in Sweden, especially Stockholm, but you may have to rely on getting a job at first that has everything to do with your English ability.

Good luck to you! I wish you the best!

  3. you must really love it a lot not to even know what industry is there. It is the same as eveyehere else really, good car industry

  4. Study Swedish first and learn something about the country before moving there. You will not get a job you are educated for if your Swedish skills are bad. Those who have moved there, don´t speak Swedish and have no education, get the jobs the Swedes don´t like to do, for example cleaning jobs.

So I advice you to start studying Swedish as soon as possible. It would of course also be good to visit the country before making a decision to move to Sweden.

    Good luck with your studies!

  5. Believe it or not the same jobs that are available in every other country in the world.

  6. Probably a couple of Swedish companies well known are Volvo, Sanvik, Ikea off the top of my head and known the world over i bet if you have the right qualifications would be interested in you!

  7. Welcome!

(I'm Swedish, if you didn't get that)
